HANOVER TOWNSHIP – ASSESSING SPECIALIST
Under the direction of the Chief Deputy Assessor, the Assessing Specialist serves as a taxpayer liaison for the Cook County Assessor’s Office. Responsible for assisting residents with information regarding tax appeals, assessments, tax rates and parcel index numbers, in addition to providing other property tax related information. Responsible for providing direct support services to departmental staff and maintaining a professional image through in-person, email, and telephone interactions. Supports the department by providing responsive, accurate, efficient support, and customer service assistance to residents, staff, and vendors. Crosstrain and serve as a Passport Acceptance Agent. Performs other duties as required for the successful operation of the Hanover Township Assessor’s Office.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*Knowledge of basic property tax-related processes.
*Ability to gain full familiarity with Sidwell permanent real estate numbering system.
Education, Experience, and Computer Skills:
*Certified Illinois Assessing Officer (CIAO) designation a plus -or- willingness to receive Certified Illinois Assessing Officer (CIAO) designation within 12 months.
*Must meet requirements to be a passport acceptance agent and obtain certification.
*Obtain notary certification.
*Basic knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications required including, but not limited to, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Special Requirements:
*Willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed.
*Ability to read and speak a second language at a conversant level is preferred.
This position is non-exempt with a pay range of $22.00 - $24.00 per hour (dependent upon Certified Illinois Assessing Officer designation status). The hours are MWRF- 8:30am-4:30pm and T- flexible 8:30am-7:00pm.
