Hidden Messages in Negro Spirituals on the Underground Railroad
Wednesday, June 14
2:00 - 3:15 P.M. Donation: $7
In honor of Juneteenth, this program explains the connections of Negro Spirituals with meanings and interpretations of lyrics from plantation songs that were created by enslaved African Americans in the South during the Pre-Civil War era. These songs, of many names, helped freedom seekers to find freedom in the North on the Underground Railroad. This presentation is created by Illinois Humanities Road Scholar Speaker, Connie Martin, MA. Registration required.
