Old Joliet Prison Tour

We start the day off with brunch at the Joliet Route 66 Diner. They have a traditional diner breakfast and lunch menu in a retro atmosphere. Brunch is paid for on your own and NOT included in the donation price. Gratuity is NOT added to your check. Afterwards, we head to the Old Joliet Prison where you take a 90-minute walking tour lead by docents and trained tour guides from the Joliet Area Historical Museum. This tour covers the general history of the site from when it was first opened in 1858 until its closure in 2002. This tour takes you into the East and West Cell Houses, North Segregation, cafeteria, Chapel, and the Honor Dorm. (jolietprison.org) Please wear comfortable shoes as this tour requires very heavy walking for 90 minutes with little to no seating and uneven terrain. An additional waiver from the Old Joliet Prison must be signed to participate. The trip departs from and returns to the Senior Center. Please note: Transportation services are not available upon return to the Senior Center. You are responsible for securing a ride home from the Senior Center. Registration required. Payment due September 15th.
