In 1948, the world had hardly begun to recover from World War II when the Soviet Union cut off all access to West Berlin, hoping to force American troops to abandon the city. Instead, the Americans and British decided to try to supply all of the city’s needs by air, flying in all food and fuel. What happened next was one of the great deeds of the 20th century. The Americans not only filled the stomachs of the Berliners — they also won their hearts. This was due in large part to the actions of one pilot who broke the rules and showed some kindness to the Enemy. Based on the book, “The Candy Bombers” by Andrei Cherny. Light refreshments served.
