In 1924, Helen Cirese was a young attorney who couldn't find a job with a law firm. She was female, beautiful, and Italian. No firm wanted her. She decided to start her own, and in doing so, saved an innocent immigrant from a death sentence. Helen went to school with famed writer Ernest Hemingway and worked on the school newspaper with him. Their ongoing debates prompted her to drop journalism and study law. She faced discrimination throughout her life and fought to make sure others did not. She was pivotal in the pushing for the 1930’s law that finally allowed women to serve on juries. This program is presented by Author Dr. Emilie Lucchesi. Registration required.
